A few Ways to Make Your Move Totally Stress-Free

Whether you got a great new job that requires immediate relocation or you have a family emergency that requires moving closer to your childhood home, moving out in a hurry can become stressful. Although a quick move is often riddled with anxiety and endless stress, there are ways to efficiently take care of everything you need to do on a minute’s notice and ensure a stress-free move.

Here are some tips for moving out quickly that won’t make you lose your cool:

Speak With Your Landlord

If you know you have to move out early, start by rereading your lease. Are you permitted to find a subletter? Will there be fees for breaking your lease months in advance? Once you know the circumstances, schedule time to speak to your landlord. He or she may be understanding, work with you and waive some of the extra costs.

Spend Time Getting Organized

Being organized can decrease stress in almost any situation, including moving. Since you are crunched for time, it is important to stay focused on everything you need to do before the big day.

Create lists, divide tasks with anyone willing to help out and tackle the most important things first. Write down everything you need to do before you leave: cancel cable, hand in your keys, schedule someone to clean your home, etc. Gather boxes for packing, markers for labeling and packing tape. Once you’ve completed a task, cross it off the list so you aren’t forgetting anything.

Label each box you’re backing by room, specifically allotting two boxes as “essentials.” When you get to your new home, you’ll know exactly where the most important things you need will be located. You’ll waste precious time digging around for toothpaste when your new job starts the next day!

Clean Up Your Space

Once all of your things are packed away neatly in their respective boxes, you should turn your focus to cleaning up your apartment or home. This is the time to quickly patch any holes or nicks you made while living here. A great way to fix tiny imperfections is by dabbing paint on the spot with a cloth or towel; for bigger projects, you may need patching compounds.
