Tips for Moving a Couch - Moving Company and moving service in los angeles

One of the largest pieces of furniture you will be moving from your old place to your new location is your couch. You want to make sure to make this process go as smoothly as possible. Many people have had horrible experiences when moving their couch, but a little bit of research shows that these folks failed to take the most basic precautions when moving their sofa. Of course the best option is to hire a professional moving and storage company, however, if you take the endeavor up on your own, the following article details some of the best tips available on how to get your couch out of your old place and into your new one.

First, you want to make sure you take a few measurements. It’s important that you are able to measure the doorways, stairwells, and elevators where you are going to be moving your couch. If you aren’t able to do this, it helps to ask your landlord to do it for you. This information is essential to keep you from trying to move a couch through a location where it just won’t fit. Make sure you get the measurement of any doorways both with and without the door still attached. How can you do this?

First, measure the width of the doorway from the floor to the top of the doorway. Then, measure from one side of the frame to the other. Next, open the door as wide as it can go. If the door is not completely clear from the opening, you want to make sure to also take this measurement. It may be necessary to remove the door from its hinges when you move the couch into your new place. You should also take measurements of stairways. Be especially careful to document overhead clearances at the landings, as you will need to stand the couch vertically when moving it into your location.

You should then measure your couch from the tallest spot (the seat back) to the floor. Also, measure the couch at its widest points, and measure the couch from front to back. These three widths will allow you to determine if you can fit the couch through the stairs, elevators, and doors. If the couch is not small enough to fit through the door, you may not be able to take it with you. But this rarely happens, so don’t worry too much.

You should make sure to wrap your couch with a protective material. A plastic liner will often do, although there are special moving blankets and couches that you can use to cover your sofa, as well. It may also be beneficial to remove the legs from your couch, if you can. With the legs remove and the door taken from the hinges, you will be able to fit your couch into almost any doorway.

Make sure that you always have at least two people to lift the couch. It also helps to have a third person to help provide guidance when moving the couch through tough spots. With these tips and a little bit of sweat, you will be able to get your couch into your new place.
